Chilean surgeons perform first oncological surgeries using MARS robotic platform

In Chile, surgeons at Clínica Colonial have achieved a medical milestone by performing the first oncological laparoscopic surgeries assisted exclusively by the MARS robotic platform from Levita Magnetics. The procedures, led by urologist Dr. Joan Cristóbal Bassa, included one radical laparoscopic prostatectomy for prostate cancer and two radical laparoscopic cystectomies for invasive bladder cancer.

The MARS technology, co-founded by Chilean surgeon Dr. Alberto Rodríguez-Navarro, utilizes external magnets to control magnetic instruments inside the body. This method aims to improve surgical exposure, reduce the number of required incisions, and decrease the number of medical professionals needed in the operating room compared to conventional laparoscopy.
