Chilean tourism shows growth in international and domestic travel
Chilean tourism is seeing significant shifts in consumer behavior and domestic activity. Data from COCHA Travel Insights indicates a growing trend where travelers prioritize destinations that offer unique, memorable experiences and social media appeal. Between January and July 2026, Curacao saw a 204.5% increase in bookings compared to the previous year, while Buenos Aires, Madrid, Rapa Nui, and Rio de Janeiro also recorded growth.
Domestically, the Chilean government projects a surge in tourism during the upcoming Fiestas Patrias holidays. Estimates suggest between 1.1 and 1.3 million overnight trips will occur between September 17 and 19, representing a growth of up to 29% compared to the same three-day period in 2025. The Valparaíso, O’Higgins, and Metropolitan regions are expected to see the highest concentration of travel, with Valparaíso leading destination preferences at 46.8%.
