Chilean universities launch student training in breastfeeding and mental health
Universities in Chile are implementing specialized training programs for students to address public health needs. At the University of Talca, 227 students from various health disciplines participated in an interdisciplinary training initiative focused on breastfeeding. The program included theoretical sessions and clinical simulations covering topics such as breastfeeding techniques, milk extraction, conservation, and physiological aspects to better support mothers and infants.
Meanwhile, the University of Bío-Bío (UBB) has trained over 500 students as community facilitators for mental health through its Micelio program. Launched in Chillán to address the consequences of the pandemic, the initiative provides modules on suicide prevention, psychological first aid, emotional management, and self-care. The program aims to establish community co-responsibility and build collective care networks.
