Chilean universities partner with municipalities for veterinary services
The University of Concepción (UdeC) has reinforced its collaboration with the Municipality of Rapa Nui to improve animal health and welfare on the island. Led by Dr. Luis Gutiérrez, a team of specialists conducted a five-day mission involving knowledge transfer and direct assistance. The mission included 37 specialized consultations, covering areas such as traumatology, basic and complex surgeries, anesthesia, and ultrasound. The team also participated in the ‘Haka Ara’ field operation to promote responsible pet ownership through community education.
Separately, the Municipality of San Joaquín has signed a collaboration agreement with the Universidad de Las Américas (UDLA). This partnership aims to strengthen veterinary care and promote responsible pet ownership through community vaccination campaigns, veterinary operations, and educational workshops. The agreement also includes professional internships, research projects, and sustainability initiatives to support local families and animal welfare.
