Chilean women break grilling stereotypes with new workshops

In Chile, women are increasingly breaking traditional gender stereotypes in the culinary sector, specifically within the realm of grilling. Data from the Global Gender Gap Report and INE indicate that women lead more than 45% of small and medium-sized enterprises in the food industry.

To address the growing interest in technical culinary skills, the restobar La Pérgola has launched "Mujeres al Fuego" (Women at the Fire), an exclusive workshop designed to teach women the art of grilling. The program, promoted by owner Eduardo Salinas, covers meat selection, seasoning techniques, cooking times for premium cuts such as Wagyu, and wine pairing.

Salinas noted that while the grill was historically seen as a male-dominated space, women are now actively seeking technical precision and culinary autonomy in this area.
