Chilean youth athletes achieve international recognition in multiple sports
Several young Chilean athletes have reached significant milestones in international sports competitions. Gabriel Díaz Mancilla, a 15-year-old basketball player from Coyhaique, has joined the Chilean U15 national team. Known as the “Ninja Coyhaiquino” due to his speed, he recently helped his team secure third place in the South American qualifiers in Castro, Chiloé.
Additionally, four students from Colegio San José de Chicureo have been recognized for their contributions to national teams across various disciplines. Dominga Sotomayor serves as captain of the U17 women's volleyball national team; Martina Báez competes in triathlon at the South American and Pan-American levels; Inés Watkins is part of the U19 field hockey national team; and Lucca Baglietto is a member of the M20 rugby national team, having participated in the World Rugby U20 Challenger.
These athletes have balanced rigorous academic schedules with high-level training and international travel to represent Chile in competitions spanning South Africa, Colombia, and Paraguay.
