Chile's Agriculture Ministry Distributes $30.8 Million in Emergency Insurance Payments
Subsecretary of Agriculture Francesco Venezian visited San Clemente in the Maule region to hand over indemnification certificates worth a total of $30.777 million to three producers affected by avian influenza and frost. The two backyard poultry farmers, Elena Alvarado Ulloa and Víctor Hugo Durán, received $1.569 million and $1.838 million respectively from HDI Seguros under the Agroseguros‑subsidised collective exotic bird disease insurance. A small orchard farmer received compensation for frost damage to apple trees.
Venezian highlighted the role of Agroseguros in protecting the agricultural sector against climatic and sanitary risks, urging broader adoption of the insurance tools. Local officials, including the mayor of San Clemente, Juan Rojas, pledged to promote the scheme among regional farmers. To date, seven farmers in the Maule region have been paid a cumulative $16.814 million out of 12 confirmed incidents.
