Chile's bottled water market hits $1.71 bn as steel bottles become top reusable choice

A study by the U.S.-based firm EMR estimates that Chile's bottled water market was worth about US$1.71 billion in 2024, reflecting continued growth in the sector. The report notes that Chilean tap water meets strict standards under Norma Chilena NCh 409, overseen by the Superintendencia de Servicios Sanitarios, the Ministry of Health and regional health authorities.

Separately, consumer guidance on reusable water bottles highlights stainless‑steel containers as the most versatile option for daily use. Steel bottles offer durability, shock resistance and double‑wall vacuum insulation that keeps beverages hot or cold for hours, outperforming glass, which can break and is heavier, and plastic, which may retain odors and provides limited thermal protection. Safety standards for food‑contact materials apply to all bottle types, and regular cleaning with water and soap is advised.
