Chile urged to join international career‑development symposium in Auckland

Chile has not sent any government representatives to the International Symposium on Career Development and Public Policy, scheduled for November in Auckland, New Zealand. The event, organized by the ICCDPP and the New Zealand government, will bring together officials from about thirty countries and is backed by the ILO, OECD, UNESCO and the World Bank. It will focus on long‑term competencies such as metacognition, critical thinking and lifelong employability, following frameworks first introduced by the United States in 1989 and later adopted by Canada, Australia, the European Union, New Zealand and Scotland. The article argues that Chile’s absence weakens its ability to shape policies for a rapidly changing labour market and calls for an inter‑sectoral delegation to attend and help design national mechanisms that support workers’ preparation for future jobs.
