Chile's Fonasa starts $6.2 billion refunds for over‑paid health contributions

The Chilean National Health Fund (Fonasa) began its 23rd mass refund process, returning more than $6.195 billion Chilean pesos to 70,069 beneficiaries – 65,304 individual contributors and 4,765 employers. Refunds cover payments made between October 2020 and September 2025 that were either duplicate employer payments or contributions that exceeded the legal ceiling of 87.8 UF per month. The automatic calculation is posted on Fonasa’s website, and eligible persons can verify their status using their ClaveÚnica or RUT. Payments are scheduled over up to 12 weeks after acceptance, with the first automatic disbursement of $399,735,564 made on 18 June. Recipients without a registered bank account must update their details to receive the transfer or a cash voucher. Fonasa emphasized that the refunds are not bonuses but reimbursements of excess payments, and that it has already returned over $40 billion to more than 700,000 contributors in recent years.

The refund window runs from 19 June 2026 to 6 September 2026, after which the process will close. Beneficiaries can also request a review if they disagree with the calculated amount.
