Chile's football federation tests VAR for second‑division league

The Chilean football association (ANFP) performed an offline VAR trial during the Primera B match between Unión Española and Unión San Felipe at Estadio Santa Laura. The test used a centralized VAR hub in Santiago, exploring a lower‑cost “VAR Light” system with four to eight stadium cameras.

The ANFP is studying the introduction of video‑assistant refereeing for the second stage of the 2024 Primera B season, slated to begin on 19 July. Approval by the Council of Presidents and a clear financing plan are still required before the technology can be deployed across clubs.
