Chile's Gabriela López and peer win judo bronze at Lima 2026 University Games
At the 2026 Pan American University Games in Lima, Chilean engineering student Gabriela López earned a bronze medal in the 57‑kg judo division. Lopez, 21, combined twelve years of judo training with her studies at the University of Santiago de Chile, noting the challenge of balancing six hours of weekly training with a demanding engineering curriculum.
In the same competition, fellow student Sebastián Fuentes captured bronze in the 66‑kg category. Fuentes, enrolled in a common engineering and sciences program, highlighted the need for precise time management to juggle academic responsibilities and elite-level judo preparation. Both athletes will return to their universities to continue their studies and prepare for upcoming national collegiate events.
