Chile's health ministry reports 90‑day oncology waitlist cut, 99.9% of patients contacted

The Chilean Ministry of Health announced that its 90‑day Oncology Alert Plan has been completed ahead of schedule, reaching 99.9% contact with patients who were on waiting lists for cancer care. The plan, launched under Health Minister May Chomali, targeted roughly 30,000 patients and succeeded in allowing them to start or continue treatment.

Regional visits by senior officials—including Subsecretary of Public Health Alejandra Pizarro in the Maule region, Subsecretary of Assistive Networks Julio Montt in Tarapacá, and the head of the Cancer Department Alejandro Berkovits in several zones—presented results such as 1,798 oncology services delivered in Maule (95% of prioritized cases) and a 97% treatment completion rate for patients in that region. The national deployment visits will continue through Valparaíso, Antofagasta, Coyhaique, O’Higgins, Coquimbo, Arica, La Araucanía, Los Lagos, Los Ríos, Ñuble, Atacama, Concepción and Punta Arenas, concluding with a ceremony in Santiago on 14 July.
