Chile's mayors seek international innovation and partnership programs

Mayor José Bartolo Vinaya of Huara traveled to Israel in late June to take part in the MuniWorld 2026 conference, meeting officials in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Hadera and Sderot. The delegation examined projects such as a desalination plant, smart‑city solutions and technologies for water reuse, road safety and disability services, aiming to apply successful practices to Huara’s water‑scarce, dispersed communities.

In Valparaíso, Mayor Camila Nieto met with representatives of the Plataforma 500 Años, including the future Chilean ambassador to Mexico and an Argentine lawyer, to formalise the city’s entry into the “Alianza Iberoamérica 500+”. The discussion highlighted cooperation with the CAF development bank and the Ibero‑American General Secretariat to support urban repopulation, diversification of the regional economy and public‑private financing for flagship projects ahead of the city’s 2036 centenary plans.
