Chile's MINVU launches risk prevention study for Santiago precordillera

Chile's Ministry of Housing and Urbanism (MINVU) has announced a public tender for the ‘FRIL Study’ (Fire, Mass Removal, Inundation, and Liquefaction). This technical initiative is part of the update to the Metropolitan Regulatory Plan 2030.

The study aims to identify risk factors associated with forest fires, mass movements, major floods, and liquefaction phenomena in the precordillera region, specifically analyzing more than 44 ravines between the communes of Colina and San José de Maipo.

Minister Ivan Poduje stated that the study will provide a framework for local mayors to detect vulnerabilities and implement safety measures. The project seeks to establish urban mitigation foundations leading up to 2041, the year Santiago celebrates its fifth centennial.
