Chile's New Paso Jama Border Complex to Support Biocéanico Corridor

The Chilean government is advancing construction of a new border complex at the Paso Jama crossing to accommodate the anticipated growth of the Biocéanico Capricornio trade corridor. Regional presidential delegate Katherine López said the project aims to handle up to 800 trucks per day and is being designed for a lifespan of 80‑100 years, with 20 hectares already transferred for development.

The complex will house customs, the SAG, police, army and may later include a specialized agency to seize and destroy illicit goods. Security is a priority, with coordinated work tables focusing on combating drug trafficking, smuggling and organized crime that exploit northern border points. López emphasized the need to provide tools and support to local communities and strengthen coordination among national, regional and municipal authorities ahead of the corridor’s operation.
