Chile's salmon sector boosts animal welfare and prepares for US tariff talks

A seminar organized by MNL Group on 2 June in Puerto Varas gathered salmon farm producers, technical teams and industry experts to discuss animal welfare and productivity in the freshwater stage of Chilean salmon cultivation. Speakers highlighted bio‑resilience strategies, functional nutrition and integrated approaches to improve fish health and growth during smoltification.

Separately, Foreign Minister Francisco Pérez Mackenna met with representatives of the salmon council, exporters and other agribusiness groups to coordinate Chile’s response to upcoming US tariff negotiations. The public‑private dialogue aimed to shape Chile’s export strategy, protect jobs and maintain competitiveness in the United States market.

Both events underscore the importance of the salmon industry for Chile’s economy, linking on‑site production improvements with broader trade policy efforts.
