Chile's Security Minister Martín Arrau conducts prison raid and police summit

Minister of Public Security Martín Arrau oversaw a large‑scale raid at the Chillán Penitentiary Center, deploying 94 Gendarmería officers and eight dogs. The operation inspected 282 inmates and seized eight mobile phones, 40 handmade knives, several blunt objects, a bottle of artisanal liquor and various suspected illicit substances. Arrau said the raid is part of a broader strategy to curb organized crime inside prisons and improve security infrastructure.

The same day, Arrau chaired an expanded police committee in the former Intendencia building of the Ñuble region, alongside regional presidential delegate Diego Sepúlveda. The meeting gathered police forces, the Public Ministry, mayors and regional authorities to strengthen coordination, reduce crime perception and advance concrete solutions against delinquency. Both actions reflect the government’s focus on security as a central policy pillar in Chile.
