Chile's SERNAC Launches Free Online Emergency Food Price Comparator

The Servicio Nacional del Consumidor (SERNAC) introduced a free online tool that lets consumers compare prices of essential items such as bottled water, rice, flour, oil, toilet paper, cleaning products and batteries across major supermarket chains including Líder, Jumbo, Santa Isabel, Unimarc, Tottus, Acuenta, Alvi, Cugat and Eltit. Users select their region and commune to view updated prices that are refreshed daily on weekdays.

The service was created to assist families in areas hit by recent frontal weather systems and the resulting climate emergency, providing transparent price information to help manage household budgets. Acting national director Carolina González emphasized that clear pricing data can ease the strain on households during emergencies. Initially covering selected communes, the platform will be gradually expanded to cover the entire country and additional essential products.
