Chile's SERNAC urges safe toy purchases for Children's Day

Chile's consumer protection agency, the Servicio Nacional del Consumidor (SERNAC), reminded the public of their rights under the Consumer Law ahead of Children’s Day on August 9. The agency stressed that toys must carry proper safety labeling, Spanish instructions, age‑range information and be free of health hazards. It warned that buying from informal or unregulated markets can expose children to counterfeit products, toxic materials or small parts that pose choking risks.

SERNAC carried out inspections of child‑entertainment centres nationwide and, in the Magallanes region, set up a consumer assistance desk at the Mall Espacio Urbano Pionero in Punta Arenas on August 8. The desk offered guidance on labeling, accepted complaints and signaled that further on‑site checks or formal orders could follow if violations are found.
