Chile's SLEP expands technical training and prison education initiatives

The Technical Institute INACAP’s Talca campus signed a framework agreement with the Servicio Local de Educación Pública (SLEP) Maule Costa. The partnership will coordinate actions to strengthen education and territorial development in the Maule Costa region, benefiting more than 14,000 students from 84 schools across the communes of Constitución, Empedrado, Cauquenes, Chanco and Pelluhue. Julio González, executive director of SLEP Maule Costa, said the pact “expands study continuity for technical students.”

Separately, SLEP Elqui opened the “Kimün Kidu” annex inside the Coquimbo IP‑IRC detention centre, initially serving eight adolescents and young adults. The annex provides public education with integrated support, in cooperation with the Servicio Nacional de Reinserción Social Juvenil and regional ministries of Education, Justice and Human Rights. Loreto Rebolledo Rissetti, regional director of the reintegration service, stressed that “education is a key tool for strengthening social integration and public safety.” Both initiatives aim to guarantee the right to education for vulnerable youth and to foster regional development.
