Chile's Alto Hospicio Migration and Labor Crackdown Detects Irregularities

A seventh joint migration‑and‑labor inspection was carried out this year in the commune of Alto Hospicio, Tarapacá region. Authorities from the Servicio Nacional de Migraciones and other institutions examined 32 foreign individuals. One Venezuelan citizen was reported for entering through an unauthorized crossing, and four foreigners – two Venezuelans, one Peruvian and one Bolivian – were found working without proper permits.

Three employers – two Bolivian nationals and one Colombian – faced fines for hiring undocumented workers. Regional director Gipsy Álvarez highlighted that the operation demonstrates coordinated preventive action to promote orderly, safe migration and to deter informal employment in the region.

The authorities said similar controls will continue across sectors to ensure compliance with Chile’s migration and labor legislation.
