Chile's Ñuble region reaches 80% flu vaccine coverage as Illapel seeks to boost rates

The provincial hospital in Illapel announced that flu vaccination coverage has reached 71.9% of the municipal target, falling short of the Ministry of Health's 85% goal. To raise uptake, a free vaccination point will be open to the public on 7 July from 11:00 to 13:00, aimed at priority groups such as seniors, pregnant women, children, and people with chronic conditions.

In the wider Ñuble region, health authorities reported an 80% coverage rate among the target population, corresponding to 245,305 individuals vaccinated during the 2026 winter campaign. The region also achieved a 99% immunisation rate against RSV with Nirsevimab for infants. Officials credited active outreach by primary‑care centres and urged anyone still unvaccinated to visit nearby health points, emphasizing that higher coverage reduces severe cases, hospitalisations and pressure on the health system.
