Chile's unique lizard populations and shifting owl dynamics highlight climate‑driven ecological change
A study by researchers at the University of Chile examined the endemic green‑black lizard (Liolaemus nigroviridis) across the central Chilean Andes and coastal cordillera. Genetic analysis of 175 individuals from eight sites revealed five highly isolated populations, each with distinct evolutionary histories and limited connectivity, prompting calls for conservation measures tailored to each “sky‑island” group.
Another long‑term investigation in the Fray Jorge National Park, spanning 24 years, tracked the diets of three owl species.
