Chilivani Racecourse celebrates 100th Sardinian Derby

The Chilivani Racecourse in Ozieri is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Sardinian Derby. The event marks a century of horse racing history at the venue, which was established in 1921 by Captain Bruno Vanzi.

The inaugural Derby Sardo took place on May 27, 1921, and was attended by King Vittorio Emanuele III. The first race was won by Lieutenant Giovanni Baroncelli riding Cerca de Ozieri. The centenary celebration includes several high-profile races, such as the 51st Gran Premio Regione Sarda and the 20th Arabian Thoroughbred Derby.

Historical records note that the racecourse's management was formalized through the Società Autonoma Ippodromo Chilivani (SACIS) in late 1921. The upcoming 100th Derby Sardo-Memorial Giovanni Sini features several contenders, including Inchimbe and Imperatorecatalano.
