Chilliwack hit-and-run collision kills 80-year-old cyclist

An 80-year-old woman has died following a hit-and-run collision in Chilliwack, British Columbia. The incident occurred around 6 p.m. on September 19 at the intersection of Portage Avenue and Woodbine Street while the woman was cycling.

RCMP confirmed the cyclist suffered critical injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Following an investigation, police located and seized a suspect vehicle, identified as a burgundy or red 2021 Chevrolet Silverado crew cab truck. An adult male driver was arrested in connection with the crash but has since been released pending further investigation.

Authorities stated that alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in the collision. The Lower Mainland Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) and the BC Coroners Service are involved in the ongoing investigation. Police are appealing to the public for any CCTV or dash camera footage from the surrounding areas, including Hazel Street, Menzies Street, and Yale Road.
