Chilliwack RCMP rescues man from swift Fraser River currents

On July 28, 2026, the Chilliwack RCMP received a 911 call reporting a man trapped in the fast‑moving waters of the Fraser River near Old Orchard Road and Arnold Road.

Officers from the Lower Mainland District Integrated Police Dog Service and the Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment Indigenous Policing Services responded. A remotely piloted aircraft system (drone) delivered a brightly coloured personal flotation device to the victim, after which a jet boat was deployed to pull him to safety. He was brought ashore and examined by BC Emergency Health Services paramedics. Constable Marc Verreault, the jet‑boat operator, praised the coordinated effort and reminded the public to exercise extreme caution near the river.
