Chilliwack school board trustee candidates announce platforms

Candidates for the Chilliwack School Board trustee election have released their platforms ahead of the October 17 general election.

Hayden Rampton, an 18-year-old student at the University of the Fraser Valley, is campaigning on a platform of academic excellence and increased parental involvement. His priorities include supporting literacy and numeracy, ensuring teachers have necessary resources, and improving communication between the school district and families.

Former radio host Darren Ollinger is making a second bid for the position. Ollinger’s campaign focuses on allocating resources to student needs, protecting student mental health, and fostering a strong work ethic. He has proposed the use of aptitude testing to guide students toward suitable careers and suggested that parents should manage student meals and transportation to help reduce school financial costs.
