Chilliwack Vedder Rotary Trail closures for flood recovery work
The City of Chilliwack announced that multiple sections of the Vedder Rotary Trail network will be closed from August 4 through October 2026 to conduct flood‑recovery work. A portion of the trail from the Greendale stockpile to the Greendale gravel bar and from Lickman Road to Webster Road will close earlier, from July 29‑31, to allow preparatory work.
The closures address a surge of sediment caused by extreme weather events: 440,000 m³ deposited in 2021 and 230,000 m³ in December 2025, far exceeding the typical annual average of about 55,000 m³. About 220,000 m³ of sediment had previously been removed in 2022 and 2024. Removal of the remaining sediment is scheduled for August‑September 2026 during the provincial‑ and federal‑designated in‑stream work window, aiming to improve flood protection along the Vedder River. After the work, the trail and affected parking lots will be restored to their pre‑construction condition.
