Chile commemorates 248th anniversary of Bernardo O’Higgins' birth

Chilean authorities and communities across several regions, including Talca, Rancagua, and Chillán Viejo, held ceremonies to commemorate the 248th anniversary of the birth of Bernardo O’Higgins, the nation’s founding father.

In Chillán Viejo, President José Antonio Kast led a major civic-military parade at the Parque Monumental. During the event, the Mayor of Chillán Viejo, Jorge del Pozo, and municipal councilors formally submitted a request to the President to declare August 20 as a national holiday to honor O’Higgins’ legacy.

Other regional commemorations included parades in Talca and Rancagua, where local authorities and military units gathered to honor the historical figure. In Chillán and Chillán Viejo, public transportation was adjusted to holiday schedules to accommodate the festivities.
