Chiloé Apicultural Network develops honey differentiation strategy
The Chiloé Apicultural Network is developing a strategy to increase the value and market differentiation of honey produced in the Chiloé archipelago. During a recent meeting, participants focused on identifying collaborative opportunities to leverage the unique biodiversity, territorial attributes, and cultural heritage of the region.
Key discussions included using industrial property tools, such as the Seals of Origin managed by the National Institute of Industrial Property (INAPI), to protect and promote the identity of Chiloé honey. The initiative aims to establish a representative organization for local beekeepers to facilitate alliances with research centers and public institutions. This collective approach will focus on characterizing honey quality, determining botanical origins, and developing commercial strategies based on a shared regional identity.
