Chimborazo launches student sports championship and malnutrition prevention programs
In the Chimborazo province of Ecuador, two distinct community initiatives were launched to support youth development and public health.
Riobamba hosted the inauguration of the 2026 National Student Championship at the Teodoro Gallegos Borja Coliseum. Organized by the National Student Sports Federation (FEDENAES) and the Chimborazo Student Sports Federation (FDECH), the event brings together student delegations from various provinces to promote physical activity, discipline, and sportsmanship among children and young people.
Simultaneously, approximately 750 families in Riobamba, Guano, and Penipe participated in the “From the First Bite to a Healthy Future” educational workshops. Part of the “Ecuador Grows Without Child Malnutrition” strategy, these sessions provided training on preparing nutritious meals with local products, breastfeeding, hygiene, and access to safe water. The initiative aims to combat chronic childhood malnutrition by teaching caregivers better nutritional and caregiving practices.
