Chimbote: Man shot dead outside kindergarten; suspect arrested

A 34-year-old father, Alexander Alejos Vega, was shot and killed in Chimbote, Peru, while waiting for his son outside a kindergarten in the La Victoria sector. The midday attack occurred near the Institución Educativa N.º 1546, causing panic among students, parents, and local merchants who sought cover from the gunfire. Police investigators recovered approximately ten shell casings at the scene.

Following the incident, the National Police arrested 20-year-old Junior Ninaquispe Hurtado, known as “Araña,” in connection with the crime. Authorities tracked the vehicle used by the attackers to locate the suspect. During the investigation, police also recovered three other vehicles with active arrest warrants. Investigators are currently looking into whether the murder was motivated by territorial disputes between criminal gangs and are examining the suspect's potential ties to organized crime.
