China accelerates humanoid robot production and deployment
China is rapidly expanding its humanoid robot industry through aggressive industrial policies and large-scale production. A joint directive from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC) requires local governments and state-owned enterprises to integrate humanoid robots and embodied AI into manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, and retail.
By the end of 2026, China aims to provide approximately 10,000 commercial units through a robot-based service leasing model. The initiative also seeks to establish training capacities and over 100 high-quality application scenarios. According to MIIT Director Wei Wei, China's annual production of humanoid robots is expected to exceed 100,000 units in 2026. In the first half of 2026, more than 40,000 units across 400 models were reportedly produced.
Market data from Smart Analytics Global indicates that Chinese manufacturers accounted for roughly 97 percent of the world's humanoid robot deliveries in the first half of 2026. The six largest providers in the sector are all based in China, controlling nearly 88 percent of the global market.
