China accelerates humanoid robotics and embodied AI development
China is aggressively expanding its footprint in the humanoid robotics and embodied AI sectors, leveraging its manufacturing infrastructure to drive economic and geopolitical influence. The country is utilizing state-orchestrated initiatives, such as Five-Year Plans, to align private capital and supply chains toward technological leadership, partly to address challenges posed by an aging population and a shrinking workforce.
In the private sector, Suzhou-based startup UniX AI is scaling internationally, delivering robots to markets in China, Singapore, and India. The company produces the Wanda series, a wheeled dual-arm robot used in commercial settings like hotels and retail, and the Panther, a bipedal humanoid designed for domestic tasks. UniX AI has raised approximately $57 million and reported significant monthly deliveries by 2025.
The sector is also seeing major financial milestones, such as Unitree Robotics completing an IPO on the Shanghai STAR Market in August 2026. The listing raised roughly $900 million at a valuation of approximately $9 billion, following strong revenue growth.
