China accused of using influencer networks for propaganda in Greece

Reporters Without Borders (RSF) has warned that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is cultivating a network of social media influencers in Greece to amplify its narratives. The organization has called on Greek authorities to investigate financial links between these influencers and Chinese propaganda networks to determine if this constitutes a foreign interference campaign.

Thanos Sitistas, founder of Greece Fact Check, noted that the content often avoids outright falsehoods, instead using omission and selective presentation to shape public perception. For instance, posts regarding the Xinjiang Autonomous Region have portrayed Uyghur residents as prosperous while omitting documented allegations of mass detention and coercive assimilation.

The strategy appears aimed at building a favorable image of China as a modern and peaceful nation, potentially making Greek audiences more supportive of Chinese interests regarding the Piraeus port and the Belt and Road Initiative.
