China advances cultural strength and ancient script research
China is advancing its strategic goal of becoming a cultural powerhouse, focusing on the integration of Marxist theory with traditional Chinese culture. Recent data from 2025 indicates significant growth in the cultural sector, with cultural industry revenue reaching 20.8 trillion yuan, an 8.8% increase from the previous year. Public cultural services have also expanded, with the number of registered museums reaching 7,188.
Parallel to these broad policy goals, the “Ancient Script and Chinese Civilization Inheritance and Development Project” has reached the conclusion of its first phase. This major initiative has produced significant academic results, including the compilation of the “Large Collection of Oracle Bone Inscriptions” and the study of Warring States period bamboo slips at Tsinghua University.
Looking toward the “15th Five-Year Plan” period, efforts will focus on the digitalization of ancient script materials stored overseas and the development of large-scale AI models for ancient script research to better preserve and communicate Chinese civilization.
