China advances stealth fighter technology to challenge U.S. aerial supremacy

China is advancing its stealth fighter capabilities, challenging long-standing United States aerial supremacy. Aviation researcher Andreas Rupprecht has noted that testing for China’s next-generation fighters has entered a new phase, specifically highlighting the J-36. The J-36 prototype reportedly features a unique three-engine configuration and a tailless, diamond-shaped double-delta design, with four to five prototypes currently in flight.

Strategic comparisons between existing aircraft reveal differing operational focuses. The American F-22 Raptor, designed for shorter-range missions with a combat radius of approximately 850 kilometers, faces competition from the Chinese J-20 Mighty Dragon. The J-20 is built for the Indo-Pacific region, boasting a significantly larger combat radius of nearly 2,000 kilometers and utilizing WS-15 engines with thrust vectoring.

As China accelerates its high-tech industrialization and STEM expertise, observers suggest that its ability to produce aircraft at scale may eventually offset marginal technological advantages held by the U.S. This military development occurs amid heightened geopolitical tensions, including trade disputes and resource nationalism.
