China Airlines marks 15 years in SkyTeam with new Virgin Atlantic partnership
China Airlines is celebrating its 15th anniversary as a member of the SkyTeam alliance during a press conference in Amsterdam. General Manager Chen Han-ming reported that the airline's passenger load factor has increased from approximately 70% to between 82% and 85% due to a focus on group travel.
Transit passenger ratios are also rising, with North American transit rates reaching 60% and European rates reaching 50%. The airline noted increased passenger traffic in cities like Frankfurt and Prague, partly attributed to TSMC's expansion in Europe. To meet demand, China Airlines plans to increase flight frequencies on existing routes, such as London and Prague, and is awaiting new aircraft deliveries, including Boeing 787-9s and Airbus A350-1000s, with orders extending to 2032.
Additionally, China Airlines has signed an agreement with Virgin Atlantic Airways to begin codeshare operations. This partnership, centered around London Heathrow, aims to expand the airline's network and enhance services such as through-checked baggage and lounge access. The airline continues to leverage its SkyTeam membership to optimize global services across 165 countries.
