China and Germany discuss strategic partnership via telephone

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and German official Johann Wadephul held a telephone conversation to discuss strengthening strategic communication and mutual trust between China and Germany. Wang Yi emphasized that both nations are major global economies and comprehensive strategic partners that should work to protect multilateralism and free trade amidst trends of unilateralism and anti-globalization.

During the call, Wang Yi expressed hope that Germany would adhere to the ‘One China’ principle and contribute to stability in the Taiwan Strait. He also noted that economic and trade issues between China and the European Union should be resolved through dialogue and consultation to avoid trade wars.

Wadephul stated that Germany observes a positive development trend in its relations with China and reaffirmed Germany's commitment to the ‘One China’ principle. He indicated that Germany supports resolving disputes between the EU and China through negotiations and is prepared to play an active role in this process. The two parties also exchanged views on the situations in Iran and Ukraine.
