China and India engage in talks to normalize trade and visa relations

China and India are engaging in discussions to address economic and diplomatic frictions as both nations seek to normalize ties. The Chinese Foreign Ministry described the economic and trade cooperation between the two countries as ‘mutually beneficial and win-win in nature.’ Beijing has called on New Delhi to ensure a fair, just, transparent, and non-discriminatory business environment for Chinese companies operating in India.

Simultaneously, India is addressing business visa difficulties faced by Indian companies through talks with the Chinese government. The Ministry of External Affairs noted that ties are moving in a positive direction, highlighting the importance of resolving visa issues to promote people-to-people connections. Recent visa restrictions have reportedly hindered the movement of technical specialists and disrupted supply chains, forcing some Indian firms to conduct meetings in third countries like Singapore.

These developments occur as India begins easing investment norms for Chinese companies, including a fast-tracked approval window for critical manufacturing sectors. However, tensions remain, following reports that India’s Serious Fraud Investigation Office may investigate the Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi.
