China and Laos inaugurate joint military training center

China and Laos have officially inaugurated a joint military support and training center near Vientiane, marking an expansion of Chinese military presence abroad. Located at the Ban Keun airport, the facility includes the China-Laos Friendship Aviation Academy and is designed to assist the Laotian Air Force with pilot training and personnel development.

The Chinese Ministry of Defense stated that the center is intended to deepen practical cooperation between the two militaries and maintain regional stability, emphasizing that the project is not directed against any third party. The facility is situated approximately 45 kilometers north of the Laotian capital.

Analysts suggest the base serves as a strategic logistics hub that could shorten supply lines and increase the operational reach of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) near the Mekong Corridor. By establishing permanent infrastructure for maintenance and supply, the site provides a long-term logistical advantage for Chinese military operations in the region.
