China and North Korea oppose Japan’s UN Charter reform request
During the United Nations General Assembly, tensions rose regarding Japan’s demand to remove the ‘enemy states clause’ from the UN Charter. Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi called for the early deletion of the provision, which identifies certain former adversaries.
In response, China utilized the right of reply to oppose the removal, asserting that the clause remains ‘extremely important’ to prevent militarism from threatening international peace and security. China further criticized Japan’s military buildup, labeling it a threat to regional stability. North Korea also joined the opposition, stating that Japan remains an enemy state under the UN Charter and describing the request for deletion as ‘shameful and ridiculous.’
