Peru exports surge in mining and blueberry sectors
Peru is experiencing significant growth in its export sectors, particularly in mining and agriculture. Between January and July 2026, mining exports rose 55.4% to US$49.58 billion, driven largely by increased copper and gold shipments.
In the agricultural sector, blueberry exports reached US$620.2 million through July, a 64.8% increase compared to the previous year. The United States remains the primary market, accounting for 56% of the total value with a 79.5% increase in purchases. The Netherlands and China follow as major destinations.
Trade efficiency between Peru and China has improved via the Chancay-Shanghai maritime route. A new bilateral mutual recognition agreement regarding cold-treatment probe supervision for fruit has streamlined customs clearance. This arrangement, which applies to shipments like blueberries and bananas, reduces inspection times by nearly half a day and lowers logistics and warehousing costs. The route has already seen a significant increase in cargo volume and value.
