China and Russia vetoes signal decline in US unilateralism, say Iranian officials

Iranian officials have highlighted the recent vetoes by China and Russia regarding the extension of the Iran nuclear sanctions monitoring committee as evidence of a growing challenge to United States unilateralism. Abbas Moqtadaei, Vice Chairman of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, stated that the alignment between China, Russia, and Iran demonstrates a deepening rift between Asian powers and Western nations led by the US, UK, France, and Germany.

Moqtadaei argued that the UN Security Council is currently weakened by American unilateralism, yet the influence of the Iran-led axis is increasing. Meanwhile, Iranian diplomatic spokesperson Esmail Baghaei addressed recent tensions regarding maritime security and international agreements. He criticized the US for what he termed disproportionate reactions and a history of breaking commitments, specifically citing the 2018 withdrawal from the JCPOA. Baghaei also questioned allegations regarding vessel incidents, suggesting they may have been coordinated with US Central Command (CENTCOM) to undermine diplomatic progress.
