China to integrate AI into special education system
China is set to integrate artificial intelligence into special education to support students with learning difficulties. According to an action plan released by seven government departments, including the Ministry of Education, the initiative aims to promote high-quality, integrated special education during the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030).
The plan proposes new human-machine collaboration models, such as AI-supported teachers and intelligent learning assistants. These technologies are intended to provide in-class assistance for students with disabilities and home-based teaching for those with severe disabilities.
Additionally, the strategy encourages the use of big data, virtual reality, and other new technologies to improve digital infrastructure in special education schools. A dedicated section for special education has already been launched on the national intelligent education platform to expand available resources.
