The Taiwan Coast Guard reported that the vessel failed to respond to warnings to leave restricted waters, subsequently suffering engine failure and being towed by a Chinese vessel.

Chen Binhua, a spokesperson for China’s Taiwan Affairs Office, asserted that China holds ‘indisputable sovereignty’ over the Pratas Islands and surrounding waters. Conversely, a Taiwan official described the Coast Guard's actions as ‘normal law enforcement’ conducted in a ‘proportionate way.’

In a separate development, maritime pressure has been observed off Taiwan's eastern coast. An investigation identified a Chinese maritime militia vessel, a Chinese Coast Guard patrol boat, and a research ship located more than thirty nautical miles from Hualien. This area is strategically significant as it faces the Pacific Ocean, potentially serving as a link to international partners during a crisis.
