China and US reveal new drone and anti-drone technologies

China has unveiled a prototype micro-drone designed for reconnaissance and attack missions within the People's Liberation Army's push toward “intelligent warfare.” The device features a cylindrical body weighing less than one kilogram and utilizes a coaxial rotor configuration to maintain a narrow profile. This design allows the drone to be launched from a 35mm grenade launcher, enabling rapid deployment without needing ground takeoff. The modular system can carry sensors or up to three grenades, with a payload capacity reportedly double its own weight.

In the United States, Picket Defense Systems introduced the Inferno RTC at SOF Week 2026. This anti-drone defense system utilizes a 40-kilogram rotating turret equipped with over 54 barrels. Unlike traditional radar-based systems, the Inferno RTC employs passive acoustic sensors and cameras to detect threats, allowing it to react to incoming kamikaze drone swarms in less than three seconds without emitting detectable signals.
