China and US strategic competition intensifies in Cuba

Tensions are escalating regarding the strategic role of Cuba in the geopolitical competition between the United States, China, and other global powers. Reports indicate that China maintains a persistent intelligence-gathering presence on the island, reportedly operating three of the 18 known signals intelligence facilities in Cuba. Given Cuba's proximity to Florida, these installations are viewed by some analysts as a significant strategic threat to U.S. military operations.

Simultaneously, the United States has intensified economic pressure on Cuba. Recent punitive measures under Executive Order 14404 target key sectors of the Cuban economy, including mining and metallurgy companies such as Metalcuba and GEOMINSAL. These sanctions aim to restrict the state's access to foreign currency and disrupt essential supply chains. While international delegations have met in Havana to discuss medical and technological cooperation, the structural economic pressure from Washington continues to impact the country's material conditions and social reproduction.
