China conducts live-fire military drills in five maritime zones

China has launched a series of military exercises and live-fire drills across five maritime zones, including the Bohai Sea, Yellow Sea, East China Sea, and South China Sea. The activities, scheduled from October 12 to October 17, involve coastal artillery and have prompted maritime authorities to issue no-sail notices for the affected areas.

The drills follow a National Day speech by Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te, in which he emphasized Taiwan's commitment to defense and its right to exist. While China has not explicitly linked the exercises to the speech, its Ministry of Defense stated that such training is a regular measure to deter Taiwan independence movements and external interference.

Taiwanese Defense Minister Wellington Koo confirmed that the military is closely monitoring the situation. He noted that while preliminary assessments suggest the drills involve coastal artillery, Taiwan is preparing for worst-case scenarios and remains vigilant regarding regional stability.
